We are now accepting applications for speakers, panelists, and workshop leads for our 6th {un}convention conference taking place on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Quirk Hotel in Richmond, Virginia.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for both experienced and new speakers who are skilled at talking about diversity and inclusivity, especially with regards to issues of race, class, sexuality, gender, and ability. They should have some understanding of the wedding industry, but are not required to be a wedding vendor or publisher. Brand consultants, entrepreneurs, and creatives serving all industries are encouraged to apply.

The day will be broken into a series of talks, panels, and interactive workshops. We encourage you to select which options you would be comfortable with and that you feel would best suit your topic.

Desired Topics

We are interested in finding speakers who are experienced talking on the following topics:

  • Cultural Appropriation in the Wedding Industry - Goal is to give an introduction to common issues of cultural appropriation that are encountered with weddings and to provide tools and tactics for how to counter them when they are requested by a client.
  • Understanding Wedding Cultures That Aren't Your Own -  Many wedding vendors will find themselves working a wedding in their career that has cultural and religious traditions they are not familiar with. Making sure that all vendors understand the cultural and religious norms surrounding these ceremonies will leave them better suited to serve a more diverse set of clients
  • SEO, Website Design, and Marketing Tactics to Reach a more Diverse Audience - SEO is always a concern for entrepreneurs, and understanding how to tag and structure your site to best reach your ideal clients is top of mind for most vendors. On top of that, it's important to make sure that once you get clients to your site, that they like what they see. We want to share design and marketing tactics with our attendees that can ensure they are delivering a truly inclusive web experience to their clients. This topic includes things like imagery, language, site structure, accessibility, and more.
  • Making Your Portfolio Diverse, Even When You Aren't a Photographer - We often hear from vendors such as florists, calligraphers, and stylists that they struggle to show a diverse portfolio. We want to provide a number of tactics and strategies for ensuring you are presenting a diverse portfolio even if you don't have a wealth of photos at your disposal.

Have other great ideas that would be suitable for our audience? Surprise us and submit your pitch below!
